SOCIAL CONSTRACTION OF TECHNOLOGY (SCOT)

It is the social relationship of technology and people. It is a theory within the field of science and technology. This theory advocates that technology does not determine human actions but rather human actions shapes the technology. The theory also argues that the ways technology is used can not be understood without understanding how the technology is embodied in its social context. Social construction of technology is a response to technological determination and it is sometimes known as technological constructivism.

Social construction of technology holds that (SCOT) holds that those who seek to understand the reasons for acceptance or rejection of a technology should look to the social world. According to the social construction of technology it is not enough to explain a technology’s success by saying that it is the best. Researchers must look at how the criteria of being the best defined and what groups and stakeholders in defining it. In particular, they must ask who defines the technological criteria success is measured by, why this technological criteria is defined this way, and who is included and exclude. Pinch and Bijker argue that technological determinism is the myth that results when one looks backwards and believes that the path taken to the present was the only possible path.

Social construction of technology is no only a theory but also a methodology to formalize the steps and principle one must follow when he or she wants to analyze the causes technological failure or success. As a person you have to flexible in interpreting issues you use technology as of the need on time. And you are advised not to assume that the meaning that you have will be the same meaning to everyone. When you use technology you must understand that people can see what you have posted at the same moment you post that thing because with the advancement of technology people walk with their devices and they can get news or information where they are so make sure the meaning you intended is the same as what will be interpreted by the viewers because you will have no time to make corrections.

You must understand the relevant social group. This means that you must understand who your audiences are so that you can post aright information to a right person. There are different groups of people using that internet and technology whereby there are kids are children, there are youth, there are elders, so you must make sure you understand who are your audience so that you can be able to structure the information .

And lastly you must think wider: meaning that as a person if you want to control the technology you must be able to think wider. You must have new ideas that will help you to be able to control the technology. You need to think in of the box.
