This means intranet is a private network, operated by a large company or other organization, which uses internet technologies, but is insulated from the global internet also, Intranet is used to describe internet technology used on a local area network to provide e-mail, web pages and other communication methods to employees by using web technologies to securely transmit information within the organization.
The importance of Intranet in corporate communication the several studies found (Colby, J et al, 2003; Kennedy, M& Dysart, J, 2007): -
Improved information access to authorized users; this is mainly achieved through the facilities provided to authorized internal users. People within who are authorized can be benefited through getting phone directories, manuals, information, also e-mails help them reducing the time and paper waste, moreover training online avoid the resource to classrooms and teachers, organized database are accessible for store and retrieve information as well as discussion application allow users to debate topics without the need of meeting.
Better internal communications; intranets can help corporate communication officers to be able to store and access corporate information such as memos, announcements as well as staff news it will be easier for corporate communicators to access the information at any time in which they want to get and also interact effectively within their organization.
