INTRANETS

According to Essential Intranets by James Robertson Intranets is used to describe internet technology used on a local area network to provide e-mail, web pages and other communication methods to employees use the same browser used to access the internet to access the company’s intranet.

Also, Intranets also are used to distribute employee information, provide web-page based forms that are completed online, and give authorized employees access to data stored in the organizations data base.

Intranet software has come a long way over the last twenty years.  Current products such as Intranets connections provide users including everything from a centralized document repository to custom forms to social network tools.  Today, intranets tie together different parts of a business and provide an avenue for employees to communicate and share information quickly and efficiently. The following are the importance of Intranets in Corporate Communication according to ITL education solutions Limited: -

Intranet helps to secure distribute confidential contents. Not every information is supposed to be disclosed to company’s customers or potential stakeholders. Also, Intranet helps circulate information only to the intended people within the company without involving non intended customers.

Secondly, it helps to manage documents, projects, information and forms in the secure locations.  This is also allowing increased awareness on company’s issues by staff before anybody else in the outside.

Thirdly, intranet encourages internal collaboration and sharing through features such as decision boards, document libraries, and robust search tools.  This benefits companies as most decisions are weighted by staff before affecting the whole society (customers).  It also minimizes the chances of making poor decisions.

Another importance of intranet is speed up the workflow and reduces errors.  With new tools such as google docs. everyone within the company can read and edit documents instantly without e-mails.  In so doing errors can easily be noticed by everyone within the organization before the information is open for everyone else.

Also, intranet maintain history of documents and projects.  It also keeps the originality of documents with the intended objectives at hand.  Since everyone within the company knows the intentions of the company.

Lastly, intranet can track important event and deadline in a shared calendar. This is because every company staff gets to see scheduled events, notifications and updates.  This also increases credibility of company’s information among staff.

As a general remark, the intranet is vital for the organizations.  The intranet serves for internal information interchange.  Overall, company’s or an organizations need to be catered for, be it internally or externally for them to motivates and to accomplish the organizations or company’s goals.
